“Geometric structures behind tensors” (grant agreement no UMO-2023/50/E/ST1/00336)Principal Investigator: Joachim JelisiejewThe National Science Center project „Geometric structures behind tensors”, led by Joachim Jelisiejew, is offering a postdoctoral research position at the Institute of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.Terms of employment
Selected candidate will be employed as a full-time researcher (pol. adiunkt) for 12 months . Upon successful complection of an internal evaluation, the contract will be extanded for an additional 12 months, totaling 24 months of employment. The starting date is October 1, 2025, but it can be shifted by up to 4 months in either direction (to be agreed with the selected candidate). The offered salary is around 8850 PLN per month pre-tax, there is also the additional annual remuneration. The position comes with no teaching obligations and with a travel and equipment budget.
Description of the project There are two main lines of research 1. tensors, including secant and cactus varieties, border rank, VSP, minimal border rank, asymptotic complexity etc. 2. moduli of zero-dimensional objects: Hilbert and Quot schemes, commuting matrices, generalizations and application to algebraic geometry and complexity theory.Requirements
 A PhD in mathematics or equivalent obtained before the start of employment (in particular, the PhD can be obtained after the deadline of applications.)
 Research experience in algebraic geometry and/or commutative algebra,
 Good communication skills in English,
 Research experience in topics related to the project: tensors, deformation theory, moduli spaces, enumerative geometry etc. will be an advantage,
 The competition may be entered by persons who meet the conditions set out in art. 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, as amended).

The applications will be evaluated by a selection committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw. The committee may invite candidate for an interview. The results are expected to be be sent to candidates electronically till March 10, 2025. The full recruitment process is described in the Statute of the University of Warsaw and the recommendation by the selection committee is a basis for its subsequent stages.
