Principal Investigator: Marcin PilipczukBy the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571), with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, the National Science Center project “Structural and algorithmic properties of hereditary graph classes”, led by prof Marcin Pilipczuk, is offering a postdoctoral research position in the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.Terms of employment
Selected candidate will be employed as full-time researcher (pol. adiunkt). The duration of employment is two years, but shorter agreement is possible. The ideal starting date is on 2025-10-01, but later dates are possible upon mutual agreement. The offered salary is around 8 850 PLN per month pre-tax. The position comes with no teaching obligations and with a travel budget. Selected candidate will work on structural and algorithmic graph theory.Description of the project
The project lies on the boundary of structural and algorithmic graph theory. The starting point is the long-standing open problem of complexity of problems like Maximum Independent Set in graph classes like graphs excluding a fixed path or subdivided claw (three-leaf tree) as induced subgraphs. We are also interested in related purely graph-theoretical questions such as chi-boundedness and the Erdos-Hajnal property in these and related graph classes. Furthermore, we also take part in the recent accelerated research on properties of induced-minor-closed graph classes and coarse graph theory.Requirements
We expect that candidate at the moment of employment hold a PhD degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics or related computational areas of study – the degree can be obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in project – and have an excellent background in one or more of the following fields: structural graph theory, algorithmic graph theory, parameterized and moderately exponential algorithms.Applications

 lists all the candidate’s research works (including not yet published manuscripts);
 gives a list of two experienced researchers that may serve as references for the candidate.
In addition, there should be a signed cover letter addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw together with the personal data clause (attached).
