0324-078Full-Time, PermanentWe are seeking to appoint an academic working in the research areas of accelerator physics and/or medical physics involving accelerators. We are able to consider applicants at any of the following levels – Lecturer / Senior Lecturer/ Reader/ Professor. Please specify on your application form, which level you are applying for.

  • Lecturer Starting Salary is £47,719 per annum (including London Allowance)
  • Senior Lecturer Starting Salary is £58,155 per annum (including London Allowance)
  • Reader Starting Salary is £58,155 per annum (including London Allowance)
  • Professor Starting Salary is £71,565 per annum (including London Allowance)

These are the expected starting salaries for the posts, however appointment at a higher point may be made for candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills and experience relevant to the respective role.The Department of Physics has a record of outstanding research across particle physics, theoretical physics, nanotechnologies and ultra-low temperature physics, and has recently initiated a new research group in Astronomy. Research within the Physics Department is supported by GRID computing facilities, the SuperFab nanofabrication facility, the London Low Temperature Laboratory and the John Adams Institute (JAI) for Accelerator Science, with collaborations at CERN, LIGO, SNOLAB, SURF, LNGS, J-PARC, CLIC, KEK, ESS and the Diamond Light Source, and in the SEPnet and the NExT Institute for Particle Phenomenology research networks. The JAI is part of our Centre for Particle Physics and Astronomy, which includes research in dark matter searches, neutrino physics, particle theory, LHC experiments including ATLAS and FASER, and astronomy activities include analysis of gravitational waves, supernovae and involvement in the Euclid Mission.The for Accelerator Science is a centre of excellence in the UK for advanced and novel accelerator technology. The Institute provides expertise and training in accelerator techniques, participates in research and development, and promotes advanced accelerator applications in science and society at large. Royal Holloway University of London is a founding member of the JAI, in partnership with the University of Oxford and Imperial College London. Our Accelerator Group has developed advanced beam instrumentation for international accelerators, including the high-luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and has developed the Beam Delivery Simulation (BDSIM) software that is being applied to design future colliders, beamlines for physics beyond collider experiments, and medical accelerators for hadron beam therapy.We are seeking to appoint an academic working in the research areas of accelerator physics and/or medical physics involving accelerators. We welcome applicants that strengthen or complement our activities in the HL-LHC, Future Circular Colliders, Muon Collider, or Physics Beyond Colliders programme and/or Medical Accelerators. Applicants with research expertise and interest in particle tracking development, accelerator instrumentation, or complementary areas are encouraged to apply. This appointment is open to all levels of academic roles: Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Professor. Applicants should have a strong record of producing high quality publications and attracting significant research funding. Applicants should have a track record of excellence in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The post holder will be expected to contribute strongly to the development of research impact, and the successful applicant will have, or have the potential to have, a strong track record in this area.The Department of Physics is committed to delivering excellent teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
