Cambridge University Libraries wishes to appoint a librarian to lead and manage services, collections and staff at the Haddon Library, supporting Archaeology and Social Anthropology. This is an essential role supporting the teaching, learning and research activity of the Departments of Archaeology and Social Anthropology, both leading centres of excellence for their disciplines. The role also serves an important function as the lead for research support for Humanities & Social Sciences Libraries.
Responsible for the delivery, development and evaluation of library services, you will manage and develop the library space, consolidate and enhance the library collection both in print and electronically in line with teaching, learning and research needs. You will direct an embedded information and research skills programme, and lead a small team, comprising a Senior Library Assistant and a Library Assistant.
You will develop productive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including but not limited to: academic staff and professional services staff at the Departments of Archaeology and Social Anthropology, students, researchers, and members of the wider Cambridge University Libraries network.
Working closely with the Office of Scholarly Communication’s Research Services Manager, you will act as a liaison point with Humanities & Social Sciences Libraries in all areas of research support. You will be involved in the development and delivery of services and training and gather information on research needs across HSS. You will also work alongside counterpart(s) in Arts & Humanities libraries to offer support and represent the two Schools.
With appropriate experience of developing and delivering library services and of staff management, you will have excellent communication skills, an ability to resolve problems creatively, prioritise a complex workload and build strong networks with a range of people and groups. You will have a professional qualification in library and information studies, or related fields, or equivalent experience. Interest in developing your research support knowledge is essential but a high level of previous knowledge is not expected.
Reporting to the Head of Humanities & Social Sciences Libraries, you will join a supportive team of library staff from across the School of Humanities & Social Sciences Libraries network and will represent the interests of Archaeology and Social Anthropology on collaborative committees.
