The school has an acknowledged international track record of research achievement across major fields including Food and Bioprocess Engineering, Biosystems Analysis and Modelling, Agricultural and Environmental Technologies, Energy and Circular Bioeconomy, with Sustainability as a focal point. The school offers the professionally accredited ME in Biosystems and Food Engineering, the MSc Eng in Food Engineering and a range of Full time and Part time taught programmes in the Circular Bioeconomy. The school also offers 2year dual degree MSc Programmes in Sustainability Engineering Leadership and the MSc Sustainable Food Systems through international and Erasmus Mundus partnerships. The school delivers undergraduate programmes in Sustainable systems engineering and Agri -systems technology and as well as a life-long learning platform.The school now seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering for the circular bioeconomy.The purpose is to develop a programme of world class research and contribute inspirational teaching to advance the field of biological engineering solutions that enable the circular bioeconomy, including sensors, biosensors, bioresource characterisation, digital technologies and machine learning. The school has recognised research strengths in technologies underpinning the circular bioeconomy and the carbon negative ambition, e.g. bioresource recovery from waste streams and sensor design and deployment for biorefineries. The school now wishes to appoint an assistant professor to complement and build on these strengths with a strong focus on in situ resource characterisation, separation and utilisation with innovation implementation.
The appointee will seek opportunities to establish new and collaborative research programmes aligned with the research and innovation ambition of the school, which aim to provide solutions for sustainable food systems and biological systems engineering for the circular bioeconomy, through local, national and international engagement.The appointee will advance emerging concepts in bioengineering for the circular bioeconomy through e.g.
The appointee will be expected to work with cognate schools to lead the programme development and delivery of the UCD BSc Circular Bioeconomy and to enhance the School’s education streams across Undergraduate programmes in Sustainable systems Engineering, Taught programmes in Agrifood Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FAST-IP), Sustainable Energy and Green Technology and within our learning for life platform integrating micro credentials, International sustainability summer school and professional reskilling programmes. This will require engaging with diverse student cohorts and integrating research into teaching for all levels. The appointee will enhance the reputation of the School and develop a record of outstanding research ambition and outputs. The successful candidate should hold an honours primary degree and a PhD in the circular bioeconomy or cognate discipline.95 Lecturer/Asst Professor Above the Bar (7943) Salary Scale: €62,855 – €99,533 Per Annum
