About Us:

In Kensington and Chelsea, we have an ambitious Council Plan which sets out our priorities for the next four years. It is directly shaped by the Council’s biggest ever ‘conversation’ with residents and puts community involvement at its heart. Embedding lessons learnt and recovering from the pandemic will be top priorities.

We want to ensure our approach to housing delivers social value and aligns with our ambitions on equality, diversity and inclusion. This includes looking after residents with complex social, health and economic needs, helping them to exercise choice and control.

The Role:

The role of an approved mental health practitioner (AMHP) focuses on working with our residents involved in a wide spectrum of ASB; with all parties involved. The practitioner will be working within the ASB Team within Housing Management which brings a new dimension to most practitioner roles working withing Adult or Children Services. This is a new role and offers a unique opportunity to support residents or households with mental health issues, with a range of needs including being at risk of being involved in antisocial behaviour, dealing with hoarding issues, vulnerable to exploitation to sustain their tenancies. This newly established position is a key role to shape the support and intervention provided to residents with varying needs with the aim of empowering them to live independently and maintain their tenancies.

Operating within a collaborative framework, AMHPs work closely with colleagues in Neighbourhood Services, Mental Health Services, Adult Social Care and other partners to address the multifaceted needs of individuals. Adopting a holistic approach, they develop personalised plans that offer practical advice and interventions to promote independence and safeguard the rights of vulnerable individuals.

Each day presents a variety of challenges and rewarding experiences in a diverse and densely populated borough. AMHPs must maintain a proactive and solution-oriented mindset to effectively address the needs of residents and their communities. This involves considering multiple courses of action, escalating issues when necessary, and prioritising workload based on risk, urgency, and complexity.

As experienced professionals with a solid understanding of mental health law, AMHPs exercise autonomy in decision-making while collaborating with partner agencies to ensure optimal outcomes for individuals. The role emphasises flexibility, collective responsibility, and access to management support from Neighbourhood Services and Mental Health to navigate complex situations and meet the immediate needs of those they serve.
