Job Description:Role: Assistant ProfessorGrade and Salary: Grade 8, £46,735 – £57,422 per annumFTE and working pattern: 1 FTE, 35hrs per week, Monday – FridayHoliday Entitlement: 33 days annual leave plus 9 buildings closed days (and Christmas Eve when it falls on a weekday)About the TeamYou will join the School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. The department of Computer Science within the School is internationally renowned for its world-class research across a number of areas including theoretical computer science, robotics, natural language processing, programming languages, AI, data science and machine learning.The department has an extensive portfolio of taught programmes, with many programmes taught on three campuses, Edinburgh, Dubai and Malaysia, with global course teams in charge of teaching courses. Our professorial staff is 46% female, compared to the national average of 16%.Purpose of RoleWe are looking for potentially more than one assistant professor for our Edinburgh campus. We are particularly interested in hiring people with expertise within one or more of the following areas: robotics, artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, human-computer and human-robot interaction, data integration, databases, knowledge representation, parallel and distributed systems, programming languages, and theoretical computer science.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Head of School/Head of Discipline, responsibilities include: * Engaging in high-quality research in your area of expertise.
