The Department is located within the University of Birmingham’s School of Social Policy and Society, which is one of the four Schools in the College of Social Sciences.Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Professor in Criminology, which is available from 1st September 2025. The post-holder will be expected to make a strong contribution to criminological and inter-disciplinary research across the Department.Potential candidates will have a doctorate, be research active, and have excellent administrative and teaching skills.Role SummaryYou will contribute to a range of education-related and research activities. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels; and (b) enhancement of the student experience and employability. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students, and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.Research is likely to include a substantial contribution to the national and international reputation of criminology at the University of Birmingham through the production of original research work and a demonstrable ability to deliver impact.Management and administration is likely to include developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement widening participation, schools outreach, or similar activities at Department/School level or further within the University.Main DutiesEducationYou will contribute across the range of teaching and learning activities by:
