Job summaryThe Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has an exciting new opportunity for an Assistant Professor in Transport, and is looking for a highly able, enthusiastic and well-motivated individual wishing to develop a career in a world leading teaching & research institution.The Department has an outstanding international reputation and has been awarded the top rating in every national review of university research held since 1986. The successful candidates will join the Centre for Transport Engineering and Modelling, which hosts the state-of the-art Intelligent Infrastructure and Transport Systems Laboratory, equipped with cutting-edge technology that supports research in autonomous transport, decarbonisation, machine learning, travel behaviour, air transport management, and transport risk & safety, and navigation & positioning.We welcome applications from outstanding candidates working in established areas of transport such as: engineering, operations, modelling, design, flow & control, economics & econometrics, autonomous systems, logistics, environment & climate change, and planning & policy.The post is full time and open-ended.Duties and responsibilitiesYou will plan, resource, and direct an original and impacting research programme in a cutting-edge domain relevant to Transport.You will have the capability to conduct research projects on your own (supervising research students/assistants) and to develop collaborative projects, in particular with other members of the Department and College, to address broader engineering & societal challenges.You will be expected to:
You will also contribute to the Department’s wide spectrum of Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching through lectures, seminars, course work, tutorials and personal supervision.Essential requirementsYou must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Planning or another related field.You will also have a developing national reputation and expertise in a field of research relevant to Transport together with the ability to communicate well, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively.Experience of preparing grant applications for submission is essential, as is a willingness to engage in collaborative research.You must also have experience of training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, plus supervising higher degrees (PhD).What we can offer you:
