Offer DescriptionRector of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciencesannounces an open competition for the position of Assistant Professor (Research and Teaching Staff)at the Department of Biotechnology and Food MicrobiologyJob Description:The responsibilities of the position include:

  • conducting research in the field of biotechnology, with particular focus on biosurfactant and protein production by microorganisms, as well as cultivation of animal cell lines, including acquiring external research funding;
  • preparing and delivering courses in biochemistry and microbiology in both Polish and English;
  • dissemination of research results through publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in SCOPUS or Web of Science;
  • participation in national and international scientific conferences and symposia;
  • attending workshops and training courses to enhance professional skills;
  • participation in organizational activities for the benefit of the department and the university;
  • other duties assigned by the Head of the Department, in accordance with the unit’s and university’s profile.

Candidate Requirements:

  • holds at least a Master’s degree (M.Sc. or M.Sc. Eng.) or an equivalent degree in biotechnology or related scientific disciplines;
  • is proficient in both spoken and written Polish;
  • is proficient in English at a minimum of B2 level;
  • has a documented scientific track record, including at least five publications in journals with an impact factor (IF) above 3, including at least one experimental paper as first author;
  • has experience in research participation (as co-investigator or scholarship holder) in at least two research projects with a total budget exceeding PLN 500,000 each;
  • has experience as principal investigator of an externally funded research project, obtained from e.g., the National Science Centre (NCN), National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), or other reputable research funding institutions;
  • has documented, active participation in scientific conferences, workshops, training courses, and other academic development activities;
  • has experience in preparing scientific publications and developing research proposals;
  • has completed a research internship abroad;
  • has research interests in detailed analysis of biosurfactants, particularly their structure, biological functions, and applications in environmental protection and industry;
  • is familiar with biochemical and molecular biology methods (including gene expression analysis), recombinant protein overproduction and purification, cell biology (including experience in eukaryotic cell culture), and fluorescence microscopy, with a focus on protein-protein/protein-ligand interaction studies;
  • has experience in academic teaching and supervision of engineering or master’s students;
  • demonstrates strong motivation for academic work;
  • is capable of working both independently and as part of a team;
  • meets the criteria set out in Article 113 of the Polish Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, including:
  • full public rights;
  • full legal capacity;
  • no final conviction for an intentional crime or intentional fiscal offence;
  • no disciplinary penalty of dismissal from a university post with a ban on working at higher education institutions for a period of 6 months to 5 years or disqualification from practising as an academic teacher for 10 years.
