About the Talent Team: Our Talent Team, part of Organisational Development, plays a pivotal role in developing and embedding systems and solutions for diverse talent development at UCL. Our responsibilities span:

  • Early and mid-career apprenticeship schemes.
  • Career pathways.
  • Annual performance cycles.
  • Behavioural frameworks
  • Future-focused initiatives like early career and graduate programs, talent pools, and succession planning.

About the Role:

This new senior role offers a unique chance to join UCL at an exciting time and to make a real impact on how we support, develop, and retain our colleagues. You will:

  • Provide thought leadership and practical solutions for talent strategy, methodology, and tools.
  • Shape UCL’s talent, performance development, and approach to staff retention.
  • Bring experience in talent ecosystem development within large, decentralized organizations.
  • Align OD and talent workstreams tthe broader organizational strategy.
  • Navigate a complex internal landscape and engage with diverse stakeholders.

You will lead the implementation of an organisational-wide digital performance and talent platform, revolutionizing staff support and development.

Reporting to the Director of OD, you will closely collaborate with senior members of the OD Leadership team, including the other new Head of OD (Learning and Leadership). As a Grade 10 leader, you’ll actively participate in a dynamic integrated professional services leadership community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Vision and Strategy:

  • Lead a collaborative approach to transform how UCL colleagues develop their careers.
  • Use data to create innovative solutions for identifying, developing, and retaining talent.
  • Develop a digital performance and talent platform for a superior colleague experience.
  • Craft organizational-wide solutions adaptable to local needs.
  • Collaborate with the Research Culture Team and UCL EDI

High-Quality Delivery:

  • Implement projects with a focus on consulting, collaborating, and partnering.
  • Work closely with the Change and Improvement Team to engage key stakeholders
  • Oversee approaches to data collection and use credible data for decisions and success stories.
  • Support faculties and departments in embedding outcomes, driving change, and demonstrating ROI.
  • Develop organisational wide solutions that are applicable at the local level.
  • Work with faculties and departments to ensure they have access to staff development opportunities that meet the particular needs of their area

Project Management:

  • Provide thought leadership and oversight of the performance and talent system rollout.
  • Work with the Talent team to align apprenticeship schemes with UCL’s strategy.
  • Further embed the career & development toolkit.
  • Work with the Research Culture team and others to develop existing / new behavioural frameworks
  • Continue to develop career pathways.

Leadership and Management:

  • Offer strategic and inclusive leadership to the Talent team
  • Collaborate with OD teams to develop integrated solutions.
  • Identify and report critical success measures.
  • Manage budget

Salary: £77k to £85k

Grade: 10
