At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment (BUILD), a position as Associate Professor in Universal Design and Accessibility is open for appointment in the Division of Town, Housing and Property from 1 June 2025 or soon hereafter.JobbeskrivelseThe Department of the Built Environment is Denmark’s largest department in construction, civil engineering, and the built environment. The research at BUILD is rooted in the field of engineering, but it also contains important and comprehensive elements from the social sciences and the humanities.The position is available in the Universal Design Research Group at the Division of Town, Housing and Property.The Universal Design Research Group conducts research on how the built environment can be inclusive and health-promoting for everyone regardless of age, gender, abilities, and ethnicity. In addition, the group has developed and run www.rumsans.dk– a website in Danish about Universal Design.The position is about one or several of these themes:

  • User needs that can contribute to concretizing the use of Universal Design
  • Methods that can support the application of Universal Design throughout the process lifecycle from the early beginning to the end of a building project
  • Methods for quality control of Universal Design solutions
  • Housing for elderly people
  • Sensory architecture

The work involves research including development of research ideas, fundraising and management of research projects, teaching and dissemination together with dialogue and cooperation with the building sector and relevant actors e.g. industry associations and professional organisations.In addition, there will be associated researchbased government services and assistance in the preparation of directions.In particular, the applicant will contribute to the teaching activities at the institute including the bachelor and master programme‘Bæredygtige byggeprocesser’ together with PhD-courses and continuing education for the building sector. This continuing education is taught in Danish. Therefore, the preferred candidate should be willing to learn Danish.Qualification requirementsWe imagine that you are a qualified architect, engineer or has an interdisciplinary background that combines health and the built environment. Furthermore, we expect you to have knowledge of the actors and processes within the Danish construction industry.You must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with other employees, public authorities, interest organizations and representatives of the construction sector in a multidisciplinary research environment. In addition, the candidate should be good at networking and communication of the research to the sector.The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level and that the candidate has successfully completed University Pedagogical Programme. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.The candidate must have excellent knowledge of English(written and spoken).The application must contain the following:

The assessment of applicants for the position will be carried out by an assessment committee.Shortlisting will be applied. This means that the head of the department, with the assistance of the hiring committee, will select candidates for assessment. Candidates selected for assessment will then be informed about the composition of the assessment committee.
