Job title:

Associate User Experience Researcher – uncover insights that drive innovation

Company:

Coloplast

Job description

Are you a recent graduate or early-career professional with a passion for qualitative user research? And do you want to use both your personal and professional skillset to improve the lives of people with intimate health needs?Whether you bring your professional experience from research, innovation or design processes, this is an exciting opportunity to deliver research, synthesis, and engaging insights for Coloplast and help shape the future of our products and strategy.Research & Insights – we set the strategic direction for future products
Innovation is high on the agenda at Coloplast. The Research & Insights team is part of Pipeline & Portfolio, which is responsible for defining our future offerings and setting the direction for our long-term strategy.Your new team has 7 skilled researchers and 1 research support manager (who handles the majority of the administrative research tasks in our team). We have two types of researchers in our team; one focuses on the commercial aspects of our business, the other one on the user experience side.“We are a diverse team with backgrounds in business, service design, design strategy, anthropology, and interaction design, which brings a vibrant atmosphere to the office. What unites us is our passion for research as a craft, where our diverse expertise comes together to form a whole,” says Lilith Hasbeck, Head of Research and Insights. As user experience researcher, we work in innovation project teams, where we are responsible for selecting methods, conducting interviews, and creating research deliverables.Bring the user aspect into our innovation projects
As an Associate User Experience Researcher, you will work in one innovation project at a time – the project team typically consists of you (as well as a more senior researcher at first), a project manager, a product manager, an industrial designer, an engineer, and colleagues from other departments, e.g. within adhesives or production. While the projects might run for several years, your part is mostly in the initial stages, where you will define, design, facilitate, and synthesise qualitative user interactions, and ultimately support the project team by translating your insights into their concepting work.Among other things, you will

  • Determine research objectives and design user interactions based on those objectives
  • Plan user meetings or interactions and design stimulus and tools to capture insights
  • Moderate conversations when engaging with users
  • Take part in the synthesis process to uncover insights and identify opportunities, making sense of everything said and observed in interviews
  • Develop compelling ways to communicate these insights

This role will take you travelling mainly to the US, the UK, Germany, and France to conduct interviews and observations. Usually, the trips will last 1-2 weeks at a time – then followed by a period of synthesising your findings. Both for the travels and the synthesis process, you will be joined and supported by a more senior researcher, until you have gained sufficient experience and knowledge to handle it on your own.“This will give you a direct and unique insight into our wide user group – all ages and stages of lives, every personality you can imagine, numerous nationalities, and a varied willingness to talk about taboo topics. Your task here is to look past the user as just someone using a product and instead see the human and understand their behaviours, needs, and motivations,” Lillith elaborates.A true people-person with a passion for research
Some parts of this job can’t be learned – they come naturally to you. You have a keen ability to connect with people, make them feel comfortable, and navigate cultural differences to uncover meaningful insights. You think both analytically and intuitively, using curiosity and empathy to identify user needs and opportunities.Professionally, you might bring your experience from either innovation, design processes or research – or a mix. Generally, you are strongly motivated to work with research and thereby improve the lives of people with intimate health needs. We furthermore imagine that you bring:

  • A master’s degree in design (product/service/interaction/UX) or social or behavioural sciences (e.g. anthropology/sociology/psychology)
  • A few years of experience with qualitative research, gained from your studies, internships, or previous jobs
  • A keen interest in specialising within user research – you might already know a few of the skills, tools, and approaches
  • Clear and compelling communication skills in spoken, written, and visual media. You have excellent storytelling skills and use digital tools reliably to bring insight, opportunities, and user experience visions to life
  • English proficiency – perhaps close to native – so that you are able to summarise ideas and observations clearly and concisely. Proficiency in other languages, including Danish, is a bonus
