Job description

Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025University of Genoa, UNIGE, located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025. Our University has been beneficiary of several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of funding scheme of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersectoral exchanges.MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2- or 3-years duration.Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development. The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCA@UniGe. Selectedcandidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposal, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of UniGe, National Contact Point and other experts. The masterclass will take place on May and June 2025, with the first online training session scheduled on the 8th May 2025 afternoon.More information:MSCA domain: Life Sciences (LIF)Research Project DescriptionOver the past 15 years, my research has focused on evaluating cellular energetics and mitochondrial dynamics and function as potential mechanisms underlying hematologic diseases associated with aplastic anemia and premature aging in childhood cancer survivors to identify new therapeutic targets.Regarding hematologic diseases associated with aplastic anemia, in the future, I would like to expand my investigation on:1) mitochondrial functionality in lymphoblast and fibroblast cultures, as well as lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood of patients;2) processes of mitochondrial dynamics and their influence on cellular energetics;3) possible miRNA-driven regulation of mitochondrial function and dynamics;4) comparison of cytokine pattern characterizing patients versus healthy subjects.Regarding the early aging in childhood cancer survivors (CCS), in the future, I would like to expand my investigation on:1) the glucose catabolism alterations and the relative oxidative stress production in a wider cohort of CCS mononuclear cells (MNCs) to confirm the present data;2) the mechanisms at the basis of altered biogenesis and dynamic of mitochondria in CCS MNCs;3) adaptative response of CCS MNCs to counteract the oxidative stress increment;4) the production and release of proinflammatory molecules by CCS MNC;5) the effect of antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and mitochondrial biogenesis modulators on metabolic dysfunction and oxidative damage in CCS MNCs.Research GroupThe Department of Experimental Medicine (DIMES) provides a dynamic and collaborative research environment that encourages innovative and interdisciplinary work. With access to state-of-the-art technology and a highly skilled team, the department offers a solid foundation for successfully carrying out this research project. The research team consists of experienced scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD students, in part focused on energy metabolism evaluation in physiological and pathological conditions, with particular emphasis on cancer and Fanconi Anemia, as well as in part dedicated to advancing the understanding of B-cell biology. Their collective expertise spans cellular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and immunology, fostering a multidisciplinary setting where diverse perspectives drive scientific breakthroughs. This stimulating environment offers new team members the chance to collaborate with experts, contribute to pioneering research, and further develop their scientific careers in a supportive and resource-rich setting.A significant strength of this team is its strong collaboration with three major hospitals in Genoa -IRCCS Policlinico San Martino, Ente Ospedaliero Ospedali Galliera, and IRCCS Istituto Gianna Gaslini- all of which maintain established partnerships with the project supervisor. These institutions provide access to advanced equipment, hands-on training opportunities, and valuable interactions with leading clinicians, facilitating both sample collection and the clinical interpretation of data.DIMES at the University of Genoa (UNIGE), in conjunction with IRCCS Policlinico San Martino and IRCCS Istituto Gianna Gaslini, grants researchers access to a broad array of cutting-edge core facilities essential for conducting high-impact studies. These include:1) Animal Facility – Fully compliant with national and international standards for animal care, including a dedicated unit for immune-compromised animals. Imaging technologies include IVIS fluorescence imaging, an X-ray system, and a 3T MRI scanner for mouse imaging.2)Proteomics and Metabolomics analyses IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini offers a well-equipped proteomics and metabolomics core facility3) DNA Sequencing – Featuring an Applied Biosystems Hitachi 3130x Genetic Analyzer, ION S5 (Thermo Fisher), and Illumina NGS platforms (MiSeq and NextSEQ 500).4) Flow Cytometry & Cell Sorting – Access to advanced cytometry tools, including FACS analyzers, two FACSAria II sorters (Becton Dickinson), an Imaging Flow Cytometry system (ImageStream, Millipore), and a well-maintained cell and tissue bank. This well-integrated research infrastructure, combined with strong clinical collaborations, ensures that investigators have the necessary tools and expertise to drive impactful discoveries in the field of bioenergetic research and beyond.ApplicationAn expression of interest shall be sent to prof. Silvia Ravera ( , Orcid ID: 0000-0002-0803-1042) .
Your file should contain the following elements:

  • A short CV
  • A one-page research proposal
  • One/two letters of reference (optional)

For more information, please contact prof. Silvia Ravera ( ).EligibilityFor MSCA-PF 25 call (opening foreseen on 9th April 2025), at the deadline for the submission of proposals (10th September 2025) postdoctoral candidates shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Italy (for European Fellowship) or in the Third Country of the outgoing phase (for Global Fellowship) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline.More info on MSCA PF at the following link:Share this page
