Post Title: Careers & Placement Officer

SBU/Department: Enterprise & Business Development (Career Operations & Placements Team)

FTE: 1.0 FTE (working 37 hours a week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary: UH5 £27,181 with potential to progress to £30,487 pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield (plus some flexible homeworking)

The Careers and Employment Service are seeking a proactive candidate to join our innovative Career Operations and Placements Team, to provide tailored support to students and employers. We are a friendly, positive team focused on student outcomes and creating opportunities for all. We offer flexible work locations across our two campuses including within our new Careers Studio that is designed to provide an informal and supportive student environment.

Main duties & responsibilities

The successful candidates will work across the university SBUs and in co-creation with our students to ensure a coordinated and efficient service is provided to students and academic schools in relation to placement management and approvals. The roles have specific responsibility for working with students undertaking placement opportunities during their degree course with a focus on assisting our PG international students.

You will deal with student, academic and employer enquiries for all aspects of placement activity including ensuring the smooth running of the administrative function of placement approvals, alongside working proactively to encourage take up of placements through activities such as phoning or emailing. The role also includes supporting students and graduates with the development of CVs, covering letters, general recruitment processes and directing them to further sources of help within the wider team.

The role contributes to a range of innovative additional services within the Careers & Employment Service, to ensure UH students and graduates are fully supported with all aspects of employment related activity.

Skills and experience required

Experience of working in an administrative role is essential, as is providing a front-line service to clients/customers. Candidates must have strong administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and a good understanding of customer care. The ability to work well under pressure whilst adhering to agreed deadlines is required.

Qualifications required

Applicants must have a minimum of A-levels (or equivalent) or have proven professional work experience.
