Overview:Post Title:Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Neuro / Endocrine AYAPost Status:PermanentDepartmentMedical 2 DirectorateLocation:Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9Reports to:CNM 3 / Directorate Nurse Manager Medical 2Salary:Appointment will be made on Clinical Nurse Specialist Payscale ( 61,463 – 77,666 ) at a point in line with Government pay policyHours of work:37.5 hours (1.0 WTE)Closing Date:8th September 2025@ 12 noonPosition SummaryPatients with pituitary and non-pituitary brain tumours who undergo surgery and radiotherapy can develop hormonal deficiencies either due to the underlying tumour or as a result of treatment received.Beaumont Hospital is the National Neurosciences Centre and has an onsite Radiation Oncology Centre and the National Neurosurgical centre. The Neuroendocrinology late effects and Adolescent and young adult (AYA) service has been developed by Professor Mark Sherlock and colleagues Mr John Caird and Prof Darach Crimmins in Neurosurgery and Dr David Fitzpatrick and Dr Patricia Daly in Radiation Oncology since 2018. Appropriate recognition and treatment of hypopituitarism and hormone disturbances in these patients is associated with improved quality of life and reduction in morbidity. All paediatric patients with brain tumours are now transitioned to this AYA service.The post holder is expected to demonstrate team leadership and management in the maintenance and development of a high-quality service to patients with neuroendocrine late effects of brain tumour treatment. They will be responsible for the day to day management of patients with late effects of brain tumour treatment in the inpatient and clinic settings. They will link in closely with all parts of the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal care of this patient group. As the management of these patients continues after the age of 25 (AYA cut-off). However, we also see many patients at a later stage throughout their life who are survivors of brain tumours in Professor Mark Sherlocks dedicated pituitary clinic.The post holder will work closely with CNS colleagues in Neurocent, Endocrinology and our colleagues in Childrens Health Ireland; including attending MDT meetings in Crumlin Hospital.

Other specific work not covered in this job description may also be assigned by the Director of Nursing, Directorate Nurse Manager or Consultant Endocrinologists from time to time.Qualifications:Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:(i) Be a registered nurse/midwife on the active Register of Nurses and Midwivesheld by An Bord Altranais and Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing andMidwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered.AND(ii) Be registered in the division(s) of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland(Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) Register for which theapplication is being made or be entitled to be so registered.OR(iii) In exceptional circumstances, which will be assessed on a case by case basisbe registered in another Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives.AND(iv) Have a minimum of 1 years’ post registration full time experience or anaggregate of 1 years’ full time experience in the division of the register in whichthe application is being made (taking into account (ii) (iii) if relevant)AND(v) Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience or an aggregate of 1 years’ full timeexperience in specialist area of INSERT NAME CaAND(vi) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, ascertified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieveda Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications(NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award that is relevant to the specialistarea of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirementsfor specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing andMidwifery 4th ed (2008).Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute thatthey have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higherstandard, relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS orabove), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by theNational Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008).
