We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.Closing Date: 28 April 2025The RoleThe School of Medicine is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified doctor for the role of Clinical Teaching and Research Fellow.This post is suitable for a doctor who is seeking to develop a clinical academic career in clinical education research.The post holder will be required to become actively involved in the research programme of the School and to register for an MD (under staff regulations) exploring an aspect of our Learning Communities programme.This is a 2-year FTE post but we would welcome applicants considering a flexible working pattern who are able to commit to this research post for a minimum of 2 days per week.The Learning Communities strand is a flagship initiative of the MBBS programme forming a core component of our curriculum aim of developing doctors as “professionals” alongside their scholarly and practitioner skills. The programme is committed to developing student’s sense of identity and belonging within medical school and will shape and support students’ professional development.Learning Communities will consist of small groups of students led by a Personal and Professional (PPD) Tutor who meet regularly through the degree programme. PPD tutors will facilitate the delivery of a curriculum focussed on aspects of the art of medicine and professional development that do not fall under a particular specialty or domain. The creation of longitudinal relationships with students and faculty will enable students to develop and grow within a supportive but challenging environment.Learning Communities were introduced to the Year 1-2 MBBS curriculum in the academic year 2024/25 and the curriculum and course content for Years 3 onwards is currently in development. Ethical approval is in place for a research project focussed on the retention and attrition of PPD tutors and applicants interested in this area are particularly welcomed. The research proposed will involve qualitative and quantitative approaches to understand the benefits and challenges for PPD tutors to inform recruitment and development. Funding to support this project is in place. This is a novel research concept which is first of its kind in the UK. The Fellow will work alongside other members of the Learning Communities team, including those working on related research projects.The post is suitable for a doctor who can demonstrate a commitment to medical education.
