Job Description

We’re seeking a Communications Officer (Digital) to join us in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. 

As part of a growing communications team within the faculty, you will work with colleagues to facilitate great stories – showcasing the value of arts and humanities to society. 

You will be responsible for various digital platforms that enable storytelling and to reach our audiences. Acting as a web lead for the Faculty, you’ll be responsible for designing and managing our webpages – both internal and external – and ensuring information is up to date and maintained to an excellent standard.  

You’ll be our expert on accessibility guidelines, web design, user behaviour and our digital audience. 

Alongside this, you’ll take an evaluation and management role for our social media channels, working with the wider team to ensure their effectiveness and forming a new social media strategy for the faculty.  

This role will be responsible for the delivery of our newsletters – coordinating delivery and working with all the relevant teams to increase open-rates and ensure maximum effectiveness. 

The job would suit someone who has excellent analytical skills, someone who is very organised and is eager to learn new skills. This is a busy, dynamic role that forms the very core of our function as a team.  

The posts will be offered on an a permanent, full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

Websites 

  • Acting as a Lead Content Provider – supporting the web development objectives of the Faculty
  • Managing and maintaining Faculty websites – including increasing functionality and meeting accessibility requirements
  • Creating different content types as required.
  • Acting as the Faculty lead for the internal site
  • Developing a best practice guide alongside with the Digital Solutions team

 Social Media 

  • Undertaking a systematic review of the Faculty social media channels
  • Leading on paid media campaigns
  • Providing support for team members to maximise story reach and engagement on various platforms
  • Developing digital best practice for the Faculty and Departments

Newsletters 

  • Manage delivery of several internal newsletters
  • Assist the Communications Officer (Students) in delivery of student newsletters
  • Be the Faculty lead on staff lists – maintaining excellent administration skills.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral with a proven ability to adapt style for a variety of channels and audiences.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of a broad range of communications activities.
  • Excellent knowledge of Sharepoint – particularly in the use of permissions and its use as a news site.
  • Demonstrable experience in CMS use for website publishing.
  • Accurate and methodical approach to work, with a keen eye for detail. Proven ability in producing high quality, accurate work with tight time scales.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media use, sites and analytics
  • Experience of sending newsletters for a variety of audiences
  • Collaborative attitude to work, supporting others, demonstrating tact and diplomacy. Ability to build effective links and relationships with a range of stakeholders.
