Community Support Worker· Position: Community Support Worker· Location: Clifden, Galway· Hours: 8hrs per week (evenings)Ability West are looking for kind and considerate individuals to work with a bright and caring 22-year-old woman who lives in the Clifden area.The young lady enjoys being out in the community and loves attending her day service where she likes spending time with staff and her friends. She has a love for animals and finds engaging with them soothing. She enjoys and participates in some activities held in her day service including drama, music, singing, and enjoys community outings such as bowling, shopping, walks and going for drives in the bus or car. She is primarily non-verbal and will communicate using gestures, modified Lamh signs, her iPad and a small number of spoken words, and likes to have a predictable routine. She would benefit greatly from a community support worker who can spend time with her during evenings and weekends to give her more access to her community and to help her engage in the activities she enjoys.The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with intellectual disability, Downs Syndrome and Autism. The role will include the following:· To establish and maintain a positive relationship with a person we support that is based on respect, equality and that promotes independence.· To provide support which allows “access” to areas of community living.· To provide supports which allow respite to family members· To support the people we support’s wellbeing and development in a range of settings includig the family home or community settings.· Provide information and insights into the people we support’s progress and maintain agreed records and data.Essential Criteria:· A valid driver’s licence (Transport will be provided)· Previous experience working with people with an intellectual disability, autism or a similar field.· Has an interest and/or experience in working as part of a team involved in developing a new community based service for people we support.
