Conservation Officer – West Midlands Crayfish Partnership (Part-time, 4 days per week)

Duration: Until the end of December 2024
Salary: £28,337.89 per annum (pro rata)
Location: Home working/ West Midlands

Are you passionate about the small things that run the world? We have an exciting opportunity
to join our team and deliver our West Midlands Crayfish partnership project, working at
regional scale to secure the long-term survival of the White -clawed Crayfish
(Austropotamobius pallipes). This pilot project (ending in December 2024)
focuses on the West Midlands area and will lay the foundations for subsequent roll-out across
the East and West Midlands (depending upon subsequent funding)..

This role will include: practical project management and delivery; partnership working;
desk-based research; developing and delivering innovative ideas and solutions to engage local
communities with freshwater invertebrates and their conservation; managing volunteers; public
relations; financial management and teamwork. A subsequent (funding dependent) delivery phase
will additionally involve overseeing practical habitat management works and undertaking
ecological surveys.

Do you have?

  • Knowledge of the key issues in White-clawed Crayfish conservation and of other freshwater
    invertebrates.
  • Demonstrable dedication to protecting the environment and conserving wildlife.
  • Experience of working in partnership with other organisations, volunteers, landowners and
    contractors.
  • Experience of project and budget management.
  • Experience of raising public awareness of wildlife and environmental issues.

This role is fixed term until the end of December 2024, based on 4 days a week. This role will
be home-based, but with the opportunity to use office space at the Birmingham and Black Country
Wildlife Trust (B18 7EP) for about one day per week and with regular meetings and events
elsewhere. A flexible approach to the working pattern will be considered for the successful
candidate.
