We are looking for an individual to fill this full time, half new half replacement post within the Cellular Pathology Department at St James’s University Hospital to support the provision of Dermatopathology services to The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and the region. The Dermatopathology service currently has seven specialist histopathologists some of whom do predominantly dermatopathology and other are part dermatopathology with another specialty. There is a large postgraduate training programme in the region which the groups provide training for. There are strong links with the academic department of pathology with the largest clinical academic training programme in the country.If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on:How have advances in genomic testing and molecular pathology changed Dermatopathology over recent years and will continue to do so? Discuss relevant technologies and the challenges of integration into current NHS workstreamsINTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS: Tuesday 11 February 2025Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant should possess FRCPath (or equivalent). They should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.Applicants should have established skills in Dermatopathology and demonstrable interest and experience in the specialty. Job responsibilitiesIn relation to this post, it is a full time (10 PA) replacement consultant post within the Pathology Clinical Support Unit to support the provision of pathology services to The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and the region. Our department works in a collaborative and flexible way to deliver a sub-specialised pathology service tailored to the needs of the tertiary centre.The appointee will have specialist experience in the Dermatopathology. We have developed the principles of the Royal College of Pathologists guidelines to try and achieve full staffing and an equitable distribution of work among the consultants in our department.Any candidate who is unable to work the fulltime for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Is up to date and fit to practice safely

  • RCPath Diploma in Dermatopathology

  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS
  • Well organised and skilled in good time management.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate to and work well within a team.
  • *Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • *Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
  • -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process.

  • Attendance at recognised management course

Experience
Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Dermatopathology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal
  • circumstances

Desirable

  • Specialist experience in dermatopathology including direct immunofluorescence, clinical pathological correlation, specialist dermatological malignancy MDT meetings, and interpretation of modern molecular diagnostic techniques

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
Essential

  • Should have successfully completed a recognised training programme in Cellular Pathology leading to a CCST (or equivalent) or Histopathology leading to a CCT (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit

Desirable

  • Dedicated training time in specialist Dermatopathology.
  • Previous participation in NSD EQA scheme.
  • Relevant higher degree such as PhD or Masters
  • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops
