Job description

We are looking for a fully qualified, energetic, dynamic and enthusiastic nephrology consultant colleague to join the department and help in delivering high quality clinical care to our patients. The post provides a good balance of outpatient and inpatient nephrology including hospital and home- based dialysis as a member of a team of 18 nephrologists.Main duties of the jobThe post will broadly involve the following:1. Inpatient Nephrology Ward Cover – including other District Hospitals2. Out-of-Hours and Weekend Nephrology On-Calls3. Specialist areas of skill and interest (one or more)a. Satellite/Main Haemodialysis Cohort and/or Home Haemodialysis Cohort Coverb. Vasculitis and glomerulonephritis clinics and MDT:c. Advanced chronic kidney disease care:4. Clinical & Educational Supervision of Foundation, Core and Specialist Renal Trainees5. Undergraduate & Postgraduate Teaching:6. Participating in and leading where appropriate relevant MDT meetings, Mortality Meetings, Emergency Bleep Review Meetings and Clinical Governance Groups.7. Addressing patient safety concerns and complaints as appropriate.8. Qualifications, Clinical Skills & Training
Essential

  • MB.ChB or equivalent qualifications
  • CCT In Renal Medicine (within 6 months of application)
  • Full GMC Specialist Registration with License to Practice
  • Postgraduate qualifications (MRCP or equivalent)
  • Experience of kidney and pancreas transplantation in an acute transplanting unit
  • Experience in interventional procedures including competence to perform kidney transplant biopsy

Desirable

  • Higher Qualification (MD, MSc or PhD)
  • Post CCT fellowship in transplantation

Audit and Research
Essential

  • Experience of Audit/Quality Improvement
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems

Desirable

  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research
  • Experience in research grant writing

Teaching
Essential

  • Experience of formal and bed-side teaching at postgraduate/undergraduate levels

Desirable

  • Specific training in teaching skills
  • Experience of clinical/educational supervision of trainee doctors
