The Military Avionics & Helicopters Directorate is looking for a department leader (level 4).

The department leader will have the responsibility to manage the Engineering department at Collins Aerospace France located in Blagnac for cockpit avionics, as well as technical part of pursuits on avionics solutions using Flight2, Fusion, Cockpit display solutions, DF/PLS product line and the Engineering Services.

He/She will manage L5 leaders and interface with other avionics leaders across the enterprise. He/She will be a key contact and work closely with VSL & Business Development to meet business objectives (execution excellence & quality, pursuits). 

The main roles are described hereafter : 

Team Leadership 

  • Manages Group Leaders, Technical Project Managers, and senior technologists  
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling responsibilities for groups of engineers or engineering managers (AOP) 
  • Enables successful overall engineering performance of assigned department activities (including technical, cost, schedule, design to cost, product integrity, manufacturability) 
  • Responsible for effective development and utilization of technical resources according to needs and skills 
  • Actively leads and engages in creating a positive working environment for the team 
  • Enforces compliance to processes and standard work requirements 
  • Operates pan-department to assist resolving engineering issues/problems 

Project Execution 

  • Responsible of project’s execution excellence in his activity domain : cost, schedule, quality that meets/exceeds customer satisfaction 
  • Monitors and takes appropriate actions to meet quality metrics and manages continuous improvement activities 
  • Works in closed collaboration with EU & US Engineering as well as LCVS, Sales & Marketing to meet business objectives 

Business Development 

  • Reviews and approves all engineering bids to ensure success  
  • Supports or assigns key people to technical support of our offer with the customer 
  • Supports business development activity with external customers (e.g., briefing on technologies, etc.) and meetings with internal customers 
  • Sets up customer demonstrations & actively participate to identify potential technical partners 
  • Drives innovation spirit 

Strategic orientation 

  • Knowledgeable of customer’s future requirements and industry trends with their domain. Develops networks and relationships with peer marketing, sales and LCVS counterparts 
  • Contributes to organizational strategic & technical planning (SFP, ESP) 
  • Has a good understanding of strategic, local and international customer needs and has an innovative approach towards solutions proposed 
  • Maintains knowledge of future requirement and industry trends within respective domain 
  • Contributes with his/her team to technical roadmaps of products/systems 
  • Defines strategic orientation for his/her engineering group 
  • Influences the development of operational objectives and long range goals of the department (time horizon of 1 to 2 years).  
  • Participates or assign key persons to attend standardisation groups 

Company representative 

  • Ensure direct reports fulfill all ES&H requirements and act in a safe and environmentally responsible manner at all times 
  • Act as a role model for others in regards to Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) initiatives, responsibilities and continuous improvement efforts 
  • Works in collaboration with HR to present Engineering related actions with Work Council 


Engineer School or equivalent Bac+5, Aeronautics/Computer sciences, and several years of experience on system lead or project lead in avionics certified context. 

  • 10 years’ experience and recognized expertise in certified display sub-system interfacing FMS, Flight Control, … and certified embedded software
  • Mastering DO178B(C) process DAL A
  • Project Management & team management (>10 persons) experience
  • Ability to deal with complex technical subjects, complex situations and apply critical thinking
  • Ability to develop and communicate a strategic vision
  • Ability to Push frontiers and lead a group to success
  • Have a strong ‘working together’ spirit
  • Excellent written and oral communication (English fluent)
  • Notions of Finance (AOP)
