Director of Data Analytics – Product

We are a spend management platform. What on earth does that mean? We help businesses to pay for things, from travel & expenses all the way through to marketing and IT spend. We make it super easy to trust your employees, whilst having the right safety rails to make sure your books are always perfect. We provide smart credit cards for businesses, and a bunch of other capabilities alongside that. 

Sounds pretty niche? Not really. We already work with over 35,000 customers in a variety of European markets including UK, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Spain, France, and we recently launched a “lite” version of our solution for companies that also operate in the US. We’re growing fast and so are the companies that we support, who tend to be small & medium sized businesses, typically up to 250 employees though we sometimes serve larger customers too. 

We also have an operating model where we separate in some cases executional leadership and competence (aka functional) leadership. So as you will see in the role description, you will lead the product analytics function from both perspectives, and be the Competence Lead for all data folks across the Spend Management Domain.

About the role

We are looking for a Director of Data Analytics – Product to join Pleo and lead a decentralised product analytics function that works with the Spend Management domain. You will work closely with product leadership and senior management teams to champion product analytics, data governance and best practices that help deliver continuous value through innovation.

Leading a talented team of 20+ people, you will pave the way for your teams to enable data-driven features into our internal and external products.

As we head towards a potential IPO, you will collaborate with other data, engineering, product and business leaders to help us drive data ownership, quality, literacy and AI enablement across the organisation.

Things you’ll be doing

• You and your team empower the Spend Management domain to derive descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights for experimentation of new features that boost product growth with a self-serve approach in mind.
• Work closely with Spend Management, Data, Platform, Product and other teams and senior leaders to craft strategy and drive execution collaboratively.
• Develop and implement Pleo’s product analytics strategy, working closely with the VP of Data, Analytics and AI in supporting the wider data strategy for the business.
• Lead the data professionals across different domains to ensure excellence and quality of work, help their career growth, provide mentorship and coaching and own the team’s problem-solving methodologies (the “How”).
• Act as the lead for Data in the Spend Management domain, leading daily execution with a focus on strategic direction, prioritisation, scoping, approach development, and stakeholder alignment.
• Ensure team accountability for high-quality output and meaningful impact, while maintaining a balance between excellence and efficiency.
• Build, develop and grow a high performing team of data professionals including analysts, data scientists and analytics engineers.

• Have both hands-on and leadership experience in a B2B or B2B2C product business leading product analytics and data science functions.
• Have defined and driven an analytics strategy, applying knowledge of data governance and privacy along the way.
• Have experience in fostering a self-service approach with data, including demonstrable examples of impact resulting from that model.
• Are passionate and have excelled in innovation and experimentation, particularly to help grow products through data-driven or data-informed features.
