We have an opportunity in the Directorate of Governance and Assurance at The University of Salford for a Director of Legal Services, who will lead the Legal and Compliance Office and work across a broad and varied portfolio of work.  The team provides professional legal advice across the broad spectrum of academic and management units of the University, as well as being responsible for data protection and information governance.
As Director of Legal Services, you will also provide leadership in legal aspects of major strategic projects and ensures the University’s legal interests are protected.

Key Responsibilities
The Director of Legal Services is responsible for ensuring legal compliance across the University and providing specialist legal advice to senior University managers with legal, compliance and governance responsibilities.

You will ensure the University’s strategic decision making is underpinned by sound, robust, commercially informed legal advice. This will include the provision of direct legal advice and guidance and, where appropriate, referral to external sources of advice and guidance. This advice will be in the context of the University’s strategic plan and its academic, commercial, and business endeavours. You will also be expected to represent the University in court.

The Director of Legal Services is also the lead in several critical areas for the University: as the Data Protection officer and the Designated Safeguarding and Prevent lead. In these roles, you will be responsible for the oversight and compliance with the regulatory requirements. You will maintain a good network to ensure good practice in all areas of the role.
