At National Food Institute (DTU Food), you will join the Research Group for Food Microbiology and Hygiene. As part of our team, you will work on issues of importance for industry and government agencies, when it comes to control of microorganisms in food production. You will become a leading expert in innovation in sustainable and safe food production through quantitative studies of the microbial ecology of food products as affected by product characteristics, processing, packaging and microbial diversity. Your overall focus will be to develop a research program in predictive food microbiology to strengthen DTU Food’s work on mathematical modelling of the growth and inactivation of bacteria in food products. You will work with nearby colleagues and with both academic, industrial and governmental agency partners in Denmark as well as abroad.One example of a potential research project could be to design mathematical models for prediction of growth of pathogenic bacteria in new plant-based fermented foods. Another project could be to study the quantitative interactions between starter cultures and food-borne pathogens during solid-state fermentations of plant material. Your research will contribute to the evaluation and management of microbial food quality and safety within the sustainability and green transition agenda.Responsibilities and qualifications
You are a team player with a PhD degree in food science, dairy engineering, biotechnology, applied microbiology, or similar. • Produce and disseminate research findings and innovation – scientifically and in the public domain
• Contribute to attracting external funding from public and private sources
• Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students

Additionally, your CV comprises:

• Academic experience from outside DTU (you can be working at DTU today)
• Documented experience in quantitative microbiology and model development
• Documented skills within quantitative and statistical analysis of complex datasets
• Documented experience in experimental food microbiology
• Experience with molecular microbiology techniques
• Experience from interdisciplinary research – and great motivation for collaboration
• Experience in external research fund raising

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English.
