Education and Students Manager
School of Mathematics
The School of Mathematics is looking to recruit a dynamic and professional Education and Students Manager who will have a positive and can-do approach to lead and manage the School’s student administration team. You will support various Learning, Teaching and Assessment functions of the School. If you have strong organisational skills, substantial experience of managing a team, are able to communicate detailed and complex information effectively and professionally to a wide range of people and enjoy contributing to a positive working environment, then we look forward to hearing from you.
The School’s student administration team oversees various aspects of student services management including providing specialist support on student records, examining boards, academic regulations, extenuating circumstances, appeals, academic misconduct, complaints and timetabling. The team provides front facing support for a wide range of activities throughout the student journey ranging from admissions through to graduation.
This post is full time, (35 hours per week), available from 1st May 2024 and is fixed term for up to 22 months to provide cover for the substantive post holder.
Salary: £39,347 – £44,263 per annum (Grade 6). We do not anticipate appointing this position above point 32. £39,347 per annum.

Job Description
Key Duties
Manage the operation of the School’s student administration team, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required
Contribute to the long-term goals of the School of Mathematics, implementing the school’s learning and teaching strategies into work priorities
Manage the performance, induction and development of the team
Support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas
Ensure the delivery of the team’s service level agreements, adapting these according to changes in workload and customer requirements
Develop networks across the department and school to ensure the success of the team’s objectives and long term plans
Make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures
Undertake the training of others in areas relating to the teams work
Undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance
Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate
Manage the School’s Examining Board processes from start to finish, providing specialist support to all panels and providing results the University Registry
Be the primary liaison with Registry Support within the University Registry
Manage the collection of data related to student attendance, student awards and progression, module evaluation
Actively participate in relevant University special interest groups, as required, e.g. in results processing/assessment workshops and survey management groups
Manage the examination and assessment data for taught students, in consultation with the Boards of Studies
Lead the annual enrolment of undergraduate and postgraduate taught students in the School;
Ensure enrolment processes (module registrations and programme transfers) in coordination with the central University Registry and the Teaching Office;
Provide support to the Director of Teaching and Learning, academic staff with specific Learning and Teaching roles, and the School Manager, with ad hoc projects and initiatives;
Manage the provision of exam-related data to the University Exams team, in advance of examination periods, and contact for queries
Ensure staff members are trained in the use of University IT systems, especially in dealing with complex student records and assessment information, control access and to assist with data retrieval from such systems
General Duties
Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties
Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role
To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.

Qualifications and Education
Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent work related experience
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Substantial experience of managing a team
Specialist knowledge of appropriate administrative systems and processes
Proven experience in developing new processes and procedures
Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
Ability to communicate detailed and complex information effectively and professionally to a wide range of people
Proven ability to develop networks in order to contribute to long term developments
Experience of dealing with performance and welfare issues
Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
Evidence of ability to solve problems using initiative and creativity; using detailed understanding of methodologies to select the right approach
Evidence of ability to plan the work of a team, over extended time periods, reacting to changes in workload and priority
Desirable Criteria
Postgraduate/professional qualification
Experience of working in a Higher Education environment
Fluency in Welsh, written and oral
