Directorate during a significant build programme and influence the design and build of new
sustainable facilities now exists.
As part of the environmental sustainability team, this role is to act as an
intelligent customer, by setting the standards and reviewing technical reports to ensure that
AWE’s environmental sustainability goals are embedded into project delivery at
AWE.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Provide advice and guidance on project environmental sustainability matters within AWE’s
Capital build programme; to be the voice of sustainability and provide interface across the
project portfolio. - Lead the development of a carbon management system in the Directorate of Capital Projects
by prioritising and addressing the findings of a gap analysis undertaken against PAS 2080, and
support implementation into Capital Projects. - Ensure carbon management and sustainability requirements are embedded into commercial
arrangements and contracts to ensure AWE contract for low carbon. - Ensure carbon management and sustainability requirements are embedded into capital projects
governance arrangements. - Set up and chair a collaborative working group to share best practice in carbon management
and wider sustainability. - Undertake technical reviews of environmental sustainability assessments including but not
limited to Carbon Management Plans and associated whole life carbon assessments; Sustainability
Appraisals and DREAM (Defence Related Environmental Assessment Methodology, MOD equivalent to
BREEAM. - Review and interpret monthly sustainability data and report risks and opportunities via the
relevant programme SHELTs (Safety, Health, Environment Leadership Teams). - Support AWE Supply Chain Management with embedding sustainable procurement into existing
arrangements using ISO20400 as a framework. - Collate carbon data from whole life carbon assessments and work with AWE Carbon Analyst to
set meaningful reduction targets. - Collate carbon saving data from across the Future Infrastructure Programme and Future
Material Campus and report as efficiency savings. - Ensure the MOD CIRAM (Climate Impact Risk Assessment Methodology) is used to inform design
of future new builds for climate resilience. - Co-ordinate environmental communication campaigns and initiatives. Ensure that this aligns
to the ESH function ‘we care’ communications campaign. - Support continuous improvement in capital programmes by sharing lessons learned and carbon
saving opportunities. - Undertake Evaluation of Compliance assessments against the Management System Standard on
Sustainable Site Development.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of carbon foot printing and accounting.
- Excellent knowledge of legislation relating to net zero policies and practical experience
of implementing PAS 2080. - Excellent knowledge and practical experience of implementing ISO 20400.
- Practical experience of embedding carbon management into a new build programme.
- Must have strong analytical and numeracy skills and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Proficient in the use of Excel and managing large quantities of data ensuring data quality
and integrity. Experience of Power BI is essential.
