Job Purpose
This part time position will be part of a small team responsible for the provision of key hospitality within the Principal’s Lodging, the Principal’s home on campus. This position will also be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of household presentation. Duties will include assisting with preparation and delivery of food and drink to guests of the Principal and all aspects of housekeeping.
Service is expected to be delivered efficiently and to a high standard, providing flexibility to cover daytime and some evening events (overtime). It requires an approach to service delivery which is informal, but professional and friendly but discreet.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To assist in the preparation and service of food and drink to guests and to ensure this meets the required standards.
2. Provision of a cleaning service throughout the Principal’s Lodging, whilst adhering to Health & Safety and Food Hygiene legislation and ensuring their implementation.
3. Some laundry management and preparation of guest rooms will be required.
4. Liaise and communicate with guests and colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the department and provide a warm welcome to the Principal’s Lodging.
5. Carry out basic equipment maintenance and cleaning according to clear and detailed instructions.
6. To assist in maintaining accurate records in conjunction with the operational procedures of the department.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role OR: Minimum Scottish Credit and qualification Framework level 3 in English and Maths (National 3) or equivalent.
A2 Good working knowledge of food and drink handling and service principles.
Desirable:
B1 Elementary food handler certificate
Skills
Essential:
C1 Good communication and customer care skills.
C2 Basic food and drink preparation and service skills
C3 Good numerical and literacy skills.
C4 Ability to work on own initiative and working to a time scale.
C5 Ability to work in a small team.
C6 Ability to use specialised equipment when carrying out duties
Desirable:
D1 Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
D2 Manual Handling skills
Experience
Essential:
E1 Learning gained through relevant work experience or training in a food service/customer care role.
Desirable:
F1 Learning gained through relevant work experience or training in a housekeeping role.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 2, £21,828 per annum pro rata.
This post is part-time (12 hours per week), and open ended. The shift pattern will be Monday – Wednesday mornings.
