Field Technician – Holborn
Why this job matters
Across the UK our phone and broadband networks are evolving at an incredible rate. At the heart of this activity is the BT family, migrating customers connections to new equipment and turning off old equipment we no longer need – or as we call it, Exchange Compaction.
As a Field Compaction Technician working within our exchanges, you will deliver planned compaction activity, physically migrating customer services between equipment to facilitate the final depowering activity carried out by our Field Engineering teams.
Do you have resilience when faced with solving problems, or love the thought of learning something completely new? Life throws all kinds of obstacles at us – from raising a family to just daily ups and downs in our careers and personal life. If you’re someone who has resilience, has a positive attitude and eager to step outside you’re comfort zone, then this could be the role for you.
You don’t need any previous experience. With interactive and engaging classroom based training combined with on the job shadowing, our skilled in-house training teams will teach you everything you need to know. As long as you have the attitude to learn, we’ll teach you the rest.
What’s in it for you?
We offer a great starting salary of £30,382 plus Inner London Weighting of £3380
Huge discounts off BT Products saving you money where it matters
A new 24/7 GP Service meaning you and your family have medical support whenever you need it
An incredibly inclusive and support family and carers leave policy to support you and your family
Optional private healthcare and dental for you and your family
Support in career progression and mapping out your personal development from the start
Role Requirements
You must have a full manual UK driving license
You must not have been disqualified from driving in the last three years or have more than six points on your driving record
You must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the role i.e. able to bend, stretch, kneel and crouch. Also must be able to climb, work at floor and ceiling level inside buildings, lift heavy drums/cables and recognise coloured wiring
Your working pattern could include any five days from six (excluding Sunday), and may require the need to work 12 Saturdays across a 12-month period
Some overnight stay or extended travel will be required of the role holder due to the nature of our site locations (for example – Scottish Highlands & Islands) – this activity forms part of the role, and where possible (excluding emergency maintenance/faulting) notice will be given to be as flexible as possible and all costs will be covered
Our exchange compaction programme is currently scoped to be completed by March 2027, therefore we anticipate the work around compaction will come to an end at that point. BT is a large organisation and our Field team is critical to the future maintenance of BT’s network and continuing to ensure that all our customers are connected for good.
With a great team culture, an inclusive environment and meaningful support, what are you waiting for? Apply now and start the conversation.
