Summary of Role:The accountant will be responsible for finance/accounting activities within Cognizant Germany and assisting with activities on a European level as needed. This person will also be involved in the local filing requirements, the audits, other (finance) projects and work closely with the finance colleagues in the shared service teams that are located outside of Germany.Major Result areas (tasks & responsibilities):

• · Preparation of accounting entries and assistance/review of standard accounting tasks
• Review prepayments and accrued expenses schedules
• Assisting on accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
• Prepare/review monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Be involved in the coordination and review of the Local GAAP adjustments
• Liaise with internal, External & Tax auditors
• Timely and accurate preparation of VAT returns
• Work closely with the Accounts Payable and T&E processing team in Budapest for Germany transactions
• Prepare monthly variance analysis on the fluctuations of the P&L and BS
• Be a finance business partner for the organization
• Advice with Analyzing and improving the financial processes within the organization
• Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
• Perform ad-hoc administrative and other assignments in accordance with controller’s direction.

Functional Prerequisites:

• · Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
• In depth experience in a similar position (preferably a multinational environment)
• Language skills: Fluent written and spoken English is essential
• Computer literate, especially MS Excel and PeopleSoft / Hyperion are preferable
• Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Practices/Principles (both US & German GAAP preferable)
