Offer DescriptionJob descriptionThe person recruited will primarily carry out research within the centre with a view to defending a thesis in legal sciences in the field of private law. In awarding the post, consideration will be given to the commitment of the person recruited to undertake doctoral research on a topic relating to civil law or civil comparative law (Roman law, law of obligations, special contracts, property law).The assistant will also be expected to support or participate in research activities conducted within the Centre. At the same time, he/she will be involved in teaching, taking charge of practical work groups (see below, ‘Teaching to be supervised’). As such, she will also have to take on the various tasks that fall to members of the Faculty’s scientific staff (exam supervision and marking, attendance at student fairs and open days, involvement in faculty life, etc.).Full-time assistants are appointed for an initial period of 2 years, renewable after evaluation by the competent bodies for two further periods of 2 years, for a total period of 6 years. As the aim of each term is to construct and finalise a doctoral thesis, tasks will be divided equally between research, teaching and participation in the management of the Centre or Faculty. These tasks may be reviewed at regular intervals, as may the content of the teaching load.Required qualificationsA 120-credit Master’s degree in law, and fulfilment of the conditions for access to a doctorate.Skills requiredThe person recruited must demonstrate an aptitude for high-level research. Their academic results, the quality of their final dissertation, any publications and scientific activities will be taken into consideration in this respect.The candidate should be able to work as part of a research team, under the supervision of the heads of his/her research unit and of the centre, on themes defined by these heads.A good knowledge of Dutch and/or English is a major advantage.Teaching to be supervisedAs a full-time teaching assistant, you will be required to teach a minimum of 120 hours of practical work per academic year, i.e. take charge of at least 5 groups for a maximum of 24 hours each (or more if the practical work on a course is limited to 12 hours).
