About the Role:
Our teams work to provide insightful financial information to inform decision making across AIB, meet our regulatory commitments, manage AIB’s capital, liquidity and cost effectively and protect the assets of our business for the long term. By doing that we work to contribute to an exceptional customer experience.
The Accounting Policies team is a small team which has a critical role in ensuring that the Group’s financial reporting is transparent and fully compliant with all statutory and IFRS requirements. It engages and collaborates with the business and finance on all key accounting matters.
Key Responsibilities Include:
-Set Group accounting policies, resolve complex accounting queries and review accounting for complex transactions. Organise and manage as appropriate all key internal governance fora in the Group for Financial Reporting.
-Support the development of the Group’s external financial reporting from a technical perspective through reviews of new disclosures and the development of disclosures that are driven by the implementation of new or modified accounting policies.
-Assist with the management of the timely preparation of the consolidated financial statements and related disclosures for annual Financial Report and Half Yearly Financial Report. This includes drafting sections of the report.
-Liaise with External Auditors on technical accounting issues and external reporting requirements to enable an efficient and effective audit as appropriate.
-Advise Group project teams on specific accounting issues pertinent to new products, major business lines and organisational events. Support decision makers on strategic initiatives, proposing solutions that optimise the Group’s objectives while encompassing transparent financial reporting.
-Present to Senior Management as required on key technical issues including the Half-Yearly Financial Report and Annual Financial Report of the Group.
-Co-ordinate and respond to comment letters (e.g. IAASA) and other industry fora on topical items.
-Maintain internal control documentation over activities in the Accounting Policies Team and ensure compliance with controls as documented. Drive consistency across the Group in accounting policy implementation.
-Engage with Peer banks in Ireland and UK, Big 4 Firms and standard setters as appropriate.
-Engage with the Business and other functions/ stakeholders such as Risk/ Treasury/ Tax to ensure readiness to meet new requirements from a business model and understanding perspective and also from a systems and an efficient reporting perspective.
-Play an active part in the Finance community, constantly challenge the status quo, and bring a commercial acumen to deliberations that has been gained through experience.
What you will bring:
-Experience in the preparation / audit of financial statements under IFRS with either a major global accountancy practise, a large banking group or a plc, demonstrating the drive and commitment to deliver outcomes in tight reporting deadlines.
-An ability to communicate technically complex information to non-technical individuals.
-Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as researching technical issues and formulating accounting conclusions in a timely manner and to a high standard.
-Qualified Accountant with 7+ years of post-qualification experience.
-Problem solving skills, business acumen, intellectual maturity and relationship management skills.
