We are looking for a Head of Academic Quality Services with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of quality assurance in higher education to join us and lead our Academic Quality Services team. This team works within our Chief Student Officer Directorate to provide a central focus for the development, review, and oversight of the University’s quality assurance frameworks. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the team, ensuring that they provide a service to the University which is professional, supportive, agile, and compliant with all applicable standards, with excellent student experience as its ultimate focus.

The role

In this position, the post holder will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of quality assurance processes relating to programme approval and review, external examining, and collaborative provision. You will ensure that academic quality enhancement, assurance and standards processes comply with external and internal regulatory requirements, taking a leading role in their ongoing review to make sure they remain fit for purpose and in line with sector recognised best practice. You will produce analytical reports that inform the University’s approach to ongoing monitoring and compliance, identifying regulatory risks and making appropriate recommendations for action.

As a leader in the directorate, you will contribute to the strategic development of the Academic Registry as an active member of the Registry Management Team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement within your team and helping to drive positive change.

About you

We’re looking for an expert in quality assurance, with sound knowledge of collaborative provision and partnerships: you’ll have extensive experience of approval, delivery, and review of this area of quality assurance. With a background in higher education, you’ll have good knowledge and understanding of quality assurance, regulatory and compliance requirements in a HE context and will bring this expertise to the position.

Relationship building will be key to this role, so we’re looking for someone with proven leadership experience including developing and implementing policy and strategy, setting objectives, and managing change. The role is not wholly covered by defined procedures and will require you to exercise considerable personal initiative, applying analytical, interpretive, and constructive thinking to deal with novel situations.

The individual sought will embody the University’s values and demonstrate these internally and externally to the organisation, encouraging diversity and inclusion and developing an open and supportive culture.

What we can offer

In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays, a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery. The University embraces hybrid and flexible working.
