Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.
The Faculty of Science and Technology is a vibrant and productive environment with over 5000 undergraduate and post-graduate students, and over 300 staff across six departments: Archaeology & Anthropology, Computing & Informatics, Creative Technology, Design & Engineering, Life & Environmental Sciences, and Psychology. The faculty provides a platform for growth and development in new and existing areas of research, generating additional research income and creating greater impact. Our continued growth in recent years has seen us exceed our student recruitment targets, successively achieving our largest overall cohorts, whilst developing our teaching portfolio to align with BU’s 2025 strategic plan and create graduates with Fusion attributes. The faculty is increasingly recognised for its academic excellence at the forefront of the STEM agenda and we are well aligned with Bournemouth University’s strategic investment areas. This puts us in an enviable position as we seek to grow further and empower staff to help us build on our successes.
We are currently seeking a Head of Department for Archaeology and Anthropology who will drive performance and build resilience, further develop and build critical mass and deliver on the primary indicators of the BU2025 strategy – inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society.
The new Head of Department will provide strong leadership, implement strategic policy and ensure that the highest possible standards of excellence are achieved. They will be expected to grow a sustainable educational provision, enhance research output and income generation, and lead on the delivery of key performance indicators. You will be supported in your role by two Deputy Heads of Department.
For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Christos Gatzidis, Executive Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology on [email protected] .
BU values and is committed to an inclusive working environment. We seek a diverse community through attracting, developing and retaining staff from different backgrounds to contribute to inspirational learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society. To support and enable our staff to achieve a balance between work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.
