Job Title: Head of Eco-Pharmaco Stewardship

  • Location: Gentilly (France)

About the job

As the Head of Eco-Pharmaco Stewardship, you will lead a transformative program designed to protect patient access to medicines while ensuring a science-based approach to managing the environmental impacts of pharmaceuticals throughout their lifecycle.

This role involves strategy development, cross-functional collaboration, and operational execution to deliver meaningful results for Sanofi’s environmental sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a long-term strategy for Sanofi’s Eco-pharmaco Stewardship program, working with stakeholders across the organization
  • Inspire and manage a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) to execute the program effectively
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve Sanofi’s environmental commitments

Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PIE)

  • Lead initiatives to minimize emissions of pharmaceutical substances into the environment, ensuring compliance with global regulations
  • Drive programs to meet ambitious goals, such as engaging 100% of sites of concern by 2025 and implementing best available wastewater treatment practices by 2030
  • Partner with legal, engineering, and public affairs teams to anticipate and address regulatory requirements

Eco-Pharmacovigilance (EPV)

  • Oversee the development and deployment of the EPV program, targeting the top 100 marketed products by 2030
  • Collaborate with digital teams to develop digital solutions to enhance monitoring and decision-making

Environmental Risk Assessments (ERAs)

  • Support R&D teams in conducting high-quality ERAs for marketing authorization applications
  • Coordinate voluntary testing and risk assessments for key marketed products

Reporting and External Engagement

  • Define and track progress against environmental goals including value chain ensuring transparency in ESG and regulatory reporting such as CSRD
  • Engage with industry peers, environmental associations, and regulatory bodies to share knowledge and participate on future developments

About You

To excel in this role, you bring a combination of expertise, leadership, and vision:

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech, or chemical manufacturing
  • Proven track record in environmental management, ecotoxicology, or wastewater treatment

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and transversal management capabilities
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and anticipate changes
  • Expertise in developing strategies and operational plans to meet sustainability targets
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively
  • Fluency in English; French is a plus
