Head of planning
PRESENTATION OF RENEWABLE GASES EUROPE
RENEWABLE GASES EUROPE (RGE) is ENGIE’s business entity responsible for the development of renewable and low carbon gases[1] production in Europe. Since 2015, ENGIE has been developing biomethane production activity. At the beginning of 2023, its portfolio includes 26 plants in operation, of which 19 are self-operated, with a total production capacity of 550 GWh/y @100% and a development pipeline of 1.4 TWh/y.
ENGIE is determined to become a leading player in 1G[2] biomethane in Europe. The ambition is to grow rapidly to reach 10 TWh/y of biomethane production capacity by 2030.
In Europe, outside France, biomethane production projects are already under development in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Italy. Spain, Portugal and Romania are other countries of interest. The strategy is to develop projects, greenfield and through M&A, to inject biomethane into the gas grid or to produce bioLNG.
