High-Performance Cluster (HPC) Manager

We have an exciting opportunity to support the running and development of the High-Performance Cluster (HPC) at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM). The HPC Facility underpins the world-class biomedical and clinical research carried out at the WIMM and is an essential resource to the research community working within the Institute.

The HPC Manager will play a leading role in the development, maintenance, and expansion of the HPC provisions and infrastructure at the WIMM. They will contribute to the development of the HPC systems strategy and policies, as well as support complex technical projects and large systems developments.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in the following areas:

o   High Performance Cluster for scientific computational research

o   Linux servers (Ubuntu/RedHat)

o   Virtual Machine and Containers technologies

o   Large scale distributed storage (Gluster/Ceph)

o   Network management, including TCP/IP, VLANs, and switch configuration

They will also have a degree, equivalent qualifications, or experience in a relevant discipline or related role. A scientific computing background is desirable, but not essential.

The postholder will be able to demonstrate effective time-management skills, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and the ability to take initiative to identify innovative solutions to problems. The ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, to a variety of expert and non-expert audiences is essential.

The post is a full-time role and fixed-term for 3 years.
