Hosting offer for MSCA PF 2025: Universidad de Sevilla (Spain).Department of Estomatology/Dentistry
Professor Aurea Simon-Soro, from the Dep. Estomatology/Dentistry at the University of Sevilla, welcomes postdoctoral candidates interested in applying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) in 2025 at this University.Brief description of the institution:With more than 69,000 students and 7,000 staff, the University of Seville (USE) is the third largest university in Spain. More than 12,000 students are following postgraduate courses, enrolled into its 111 master programmes and 32 doctoral programmes. The USE is also committed to research with more than 400 national and regional ongoing projects and more than 60 European ongoing projects. In addition to its 4,300 academic staff, there are 1,500 researchers under different contracts. Research is carried out within 134 academic departments, 8 Joint Research Centres, the USE – Spanish National Scientific Research Council (CSIC) and 13 University Research Institutes. This results in a rich variety of research, including Biochemistry, Genomics and Biotechnology, Microbiology, Ecology, Engineering and Applied Nuclear Techniques, Materials Science, Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Economics and Social Sciences, etc. Moreover, 15 USE General Research Services in 3 buildings with more than 15,000m² total surface area provide the most advanced, cutting-edge analytical instrumentation and techniques to research groups, public research institutes and industry. With a powerful educational and technological infrastructure, the USE embraces academia, industry, engineering and science, being an intellectual benchmark in the South of Europe. In 2024, the USE was ranked among the top 500 universities in the world and among the top 10 universities in Spain according to the Shanghai ranking. In 2025 the USE has been awarded the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers – HRS4R. The HRS4R is awarded by the European Commission to research institutions and organizations supporting a favourable and boosted work environment. The International Projects Office at the USE offers a coaching and advising programme to MSCA PF candidates and supervisors, helping them to write a more competitive proposal.Postdoctoral researchers with Marie Curie contracts at the USE will be considered for tenure track at the end of their contract.Brief description of the Centre/Research GroupDr. Aurea Simon-Soro is an established researcher in oral microbiology and host-microbiome-hormone interactions, with a strong track record in interdisciplinary science and international collaboration. She leads a dynamic team at the University of Seville and the Andalusian Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine Centre (CABIMER), where she coordinates projects across dentistry, endocrinology, microbiology, immunology, bioinformatics, and AI. Her research has redefined microbial paradigms, contributed to non-invasive diagnostic innovations, and opened new paths in hormone-microbiome research (hormobiome). As PI of competitive national and international projects, and with mentoring experience across clinical, molecular, and computational profiles, Dr. Simón-Soro fosters a collaborative environment ideal for postdoctoral development. The HORMOBIOME group integrates cutting-edge tools (multi-omics, AI, biofilm models) and global partnerships to explore how hormonal changes influence the microbiome in aging, fertility, and autoimmune disease.Project descriptionThe project investigates how hormonal fluctuations influence microbiome dynamics to develop non-invasive diagnostic tools for endometriosis (EM), a chronic, estrogen-dependent inflammatory disease affecting around 10% of women worldwide. Current diagnosis is invasive, requiring surgery, and no definitive biomarkers are available. We focus on the oral microbiome as an accessible and innovative source of surrogate biomarkers. By combining multiomics approaches (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and hormonal profiling) with AI-based bioinformatics, we aim to identify gene expression profiles and microbial signatures by combining oral, intestinal, and reproductive body sites linked to estrogen balance and EM. Research will be conducted at the University of Seville and the Andalusian Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine Centre (CABIMER), in collaboration with fertility clinics and international microbiome research networks. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working across microbiology, gynecology, endocrinology, bioinformatics, and regenerative medicine. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedicine, or related fields. Experience in microbiome studies, multiomics data analysis, and bioinformatics is highly valued. Good skills in statistics, management of biological datasets, and scientific communication in English are important.Research AreaLife Sciences (LIF)IMPORTANT: Applicants should check their elegibility to apply to the MSCA PF 2025 Call:
