University of Nottingham (UoN) is excited to invite applications for a Human Factors (Biomechanical) Engineer to join our Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Casella Holdings Limited.
Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are one of the leading causes of lost workdays around the world, and one of the highest costs to the NHS. The monitoring, detection, and early intervention to prevent MSDs would be invaluable to employers protecting their workforce and an area of great interest around the world for research groups in biomechanics, ergonomics, and human factors.
This new and exciting collaboration between Casella Holdings Ltd and UoN offers the opportunity to carry out fieldwork and technology development, combining industry experience, customer feedback, biomechanical analysis, and ergonomic assessment to develop a new wearable sensor which can be used by workers during their everyday tasks. The developed sensor will monitor movement patterns to detect potentially high-risk tasks and possible MSD development.
Based at Casella in Kempston, Bedford, you will work directly with Casella’s Engineering Manager and closely with other stakeholders to navigate between commercial requirements and the technical challenges presented by the KTP.
This is a career-development opportunity for an enthusiastic graduate to manage a KTP with continual support from leading academic experts in biomechanics and ergonomics within the UoN’s Human Factors Research Group (HFRG) . You will be instrumental in transferring and embedding the specialist knowledge needed to extend Casella’s existing product range of wearable sensing technologies into devices to support the management of MSDs in the workplace.
You should hold a post-graduate qualification, ideally an MSc or PhD in ergonomics, biomechanics, or related discipline. You should have experience of ergonomics/human factors or biomechanics research methods, and application of that knowledge. Additionally, experience of biomechanical analysis or the application of movement analysis is desirable.
As a people-orientated individual, you will have the ability to influence and engage collaboratively with Casella, UoN and other stakeholders. You will be enthusiastic and motivated to organise your own time effectively and have a flexible approach to prioritising work tasks. Throughout the KTP, you will be fully supported and mentored to nurture your talent. You will have a budget of £2,000 pa for training and CPD, helping you develop your skillset and reach your personal and professional goals.
The KTP offers a highly competitive salary package, with UoN fully committed to providing employment support to help staff reach their full potential. As a university employee, you will have access to the resources of UoN and a range of benefits and rewards, including staff discounts, travel schemes and an attractive pension scheme.
This is a fixed term contract for 24 months. Hours of work are full time (37 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
Please note that applications sent directly to these email addresses will not be accepted.
