Contract DurationInterns are required to work full time for a period between three and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement).Organisational ContextLegal Interns will be assigned to work with either a Unified Team, The Appeals and Legal Coordination Section (“APLCS”), or the Gender and Children Unit (“GCU”).A Unified Team is a multidisciplinary unit, comprising investigators, analysts, lawyers, an international cooperation adviser, an information management assistant, a case manager, trial support assistants, and other specialists as required. The Unified Team operates under the direct supervision of its respective Deputy Prosecutor, and the Prosecutor’s leadership.Each Unified Team is working on a specific case or situation and is responsible for conducting high quality, effective and efficient investigations leading to successful prosecutions.The APLCS and the GCU have a more overarching role; both support the Unified Teams and the Office of the Prosecutor more generally. The APLCS provides legal and strategic support as well as litigates before the Appeals Chamber. Whereas the GCU provides legal, investigative and strategic advice during all phases, specifically on sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against or affecting children.Duties and Responsibilities
Required QualificationsEducation:All Candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognised university. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.Experience:Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers, therefore, practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Languages:Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.RemunerationPlease note that the ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship Programme with remuneration, nor is it possible to provide any reimbursement for any expenses incurred during the internship. Accordingly, applicants must have the necessary resources or other financial support for the duration of the internship for which they have been selected.
