About the role

As Land Manager you will play a crucial role in the creation and management of Habitat Banks on
a regional basis. Reporting to the regional Head of Land, the Land Manager will be responsible
for identifying suitable land opportunities, collaborating with landowners and agents, and
overseeing the process of onboarding land for Habitat Bank creation.

This role requires effective communication, collaboration with internal teams, and engagement
with external stakeholders such as farmers, landowners, and Local Authorities.

Location

Please note that this role is remote, however the ideal candidate would be based in the
following areas: Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent or Nottingham.

Duties

  • Report directly to the regional Head of Land and collaborate closely with colleagues in the
    Land and Ecology Teams.
  • Identify and onboard new land opportunities to establish Habitat Banks, liaising with
    landowners and agents.
  • Prioritise the creation of Habitat Banks based on Local Authority BNG (Biodiversity Net
    Gain) credit demand and known purchaser demand, with input from the sales team.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence to assess site suitability for Habitat Bank creation,
    coordinating with internal teams including ecology, project delivery, legal, and finance.
  • Prepare initial site reviews and recommendation packs based on internal assessments and
    findings.
  • Gather and analyse data to support targeted Habitat Bank creation, including reviewing
    local plan policies, agri-environment scheme information, and market sector reports.
  • Facilitate a smooth landowner process, ensuring effective communication of contractual
    terms and maintaining close collaboration with the Head of Land and colleagues in the Land and
    Ecology Teams. Communication will variously be onsite, remote across Teams/ telephone and via
    letter/email, as appropriate.
  • Participate in regional and national marketing events to promote the concept of Habitat
    Bank creation to farmers and landowners.
  • Provide support in engaging with Local Authorities regarding the approach to Habitat Banks
    and the sale process of BNG Credits.

Requirements

  • Experience of working directly with farmers and landowners, in a professional capacity.
  • Preferably possess a working knowledge of Farm Business Tenancies and relevant
    environmental matters related to rural land management.
  • Some understanding of utilising Land Registry and other publicly available legal and land
    management data sources.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including the ability to present to
    groups and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organised and self-starting, capable of managing personal schedule, maintaining records,
    and prioritising tasks effectively.
  • Full UK clean driving license and willingness to travel for regional site visits and
    events.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Numerate and computer literate with a strong understanding of data analysis and
    manipulation.
