We are a successful and established FE College looking to recruit a Learning Facilitator on an hourly paid basis. You will support the curriculum areas by supervising learners during their independent study time and will work in conjunction with their academic staff to ensure they are completing their set tasks. 

This work may be carried out on site in Buxton, Leek or Derby or on work placements that the students undertake.

The role is ideally suited to candidates who are seeking flexible part-time work and wish to enhance their personal career development. Our learners are fantastic students who are a pleasure to work with and we offer excellent facilities and resources to help them achieve their full potential.

Principal accountabilities

  • To provide supervision and support to students in resource based learning classes, including those in place to cover tutor absence and in work placements.
  • To enable students to continue the development of knowledge, skills and behaviour in individual programmes within Resource Based Learning (RBL) session and lesson time.
  • To assist students with individual portfolio building and assignments.
  • To maintain accurate registers.
  • To maintain accurate records under the direction of Curriculum Leaders.
  • To monitor attendance and inform tutors of unexplained absences and student concerns.
  • To ensure student learning support needs are met within sessions.
  • To contribute to team meetings.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties within the overall function commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post.
  • To comply with the requirements of health and safety, safeguarding and other relevant legislation, and University documentation.
  • To understand and comply with the University’s equal Opportunities Policy.

    Essential Criteria
    Qualifications

    • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent qualification or experience
    • Hold or be working towards/willing to work towards a recognised teaching Qualification

    Experience

    • Experience of working with students with a variety of individual learning needs

    Skills, knowledge & abilities

    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Strong organisational and administrative skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students who have profound and multiple learning difficulties
    • Ability to use own initiative
    • Knowledge of Basic/Key or functional skills
    • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team
    • Sensitive to the needs of students with profound and multiple learning difficulties
    • Ability to ensure accurate records

    Business requirements

    • Completed DBS check with child barred list
    • A willingness to work across College sites and externally

    Desirable Criteria
    Experience

    • Experience of implementing quality systems
    • Experience of working within Further Education

    Skills, knowledge and abilities

    • Knowledge of Makaton or similar additional knowledge
