Post Title Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry

SBU/Department: School of Life and Medical Sciences / Department of Clinical, Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences

FTE: 1fte (working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary: UH7 starting at £37,099 per annum with potential to progress to £44,263 per annum by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

This position in concerned with the teaching and research in NMR and Mass Spectrometry. The individual will be expected to develop a research programme associated with the application of these techniques within the pharmaceutical industry.

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform various teaching and academic administrative duties associated with the delivery, quality control and enhancement of our academic programmes. You will be expected to deliver high quality teaching using lectures, workshops, other media and practical classes in various areas of analytical chemistry (particularly NMR and mass spectrometry) to students studying on our M.Pharm. B.Sc. Pharmaceutical Sciences, B.Sc. Biosciences and various taught M.Sc. programmes.

In this role you will also be expected to develop and undertake high quality research (either fundamental or applied) in analytical chemistry, particularly in NMR and mass spectrometry as applied to the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries.

Skills and experience required

You will have a good background in a wide variety of analytical techniques, particularly NMR and/or mass spectrometry, as applied within the pharmaceutical, agrochemical or fine chemical industries.

This role also requires possession of specialist knowledge in analytical chemistry sufficient to develop programmes in both teaching and research as evidenced by published research in analytical chemistry along with the presentation and peer reviewed publication of such research.

Qualifications required

A minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Chemistry or relevant discipline and PhD in Analytical Chemistry (or close to completion), or have equivalent post-graduate experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory. A postgraduate qualification (Masters or PhD) in a relevant field is desirable.
