The Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at the University of Southampton invites applications to a Lectureship in Applied Linguistics with an expertise in digital communication available from 1st September 2023 on a permanent basis (salary £43,155-£54,421) per annum, depending upon experience and qualifications). We are seeking to complement the department with a new appointment to enhance our research and teaching profile in the area of digital communication or adjacent specialisms such as discourse studies, linguistic ethnography, linguistic anthropology or sociolinguistics specialising on communication and discourse in digital media.

You will join the vibrant and diverse Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics that has recently launched the unique interdisciplinary BA Language Culture and Communication, combining the study of languages with ethnography, cultural studies, sociolinguistics, as well as digital and non-digital communication. We are based within the School of Humanities, which has recently invested in Digital Humanities to grow expertise and infrastructure in digital humanities approaches across humanities disciplines.

The closing date for applications is 13 June 2023.

You must have completed a PhD in a relevant field and show a developing profile of international excellence in research and publications, together with potential for attracting research funding. You will contribute to research-led teaching, supporting the delivery and ongoing development of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula by delivering high quality courses that complement and extend the current provision in languages, cultures and linguistics. You will lead and contribute to modules according to your specific areas of expertise, including modules of our undergraduate programmes, particularly in our new BA Language, Culture and Communication. You will teach students specialising in languages and/or linguistics as well as those electing to take module options in the discipline, so the ability to deliver courses that engage the interest of students from different degree programmes is essential. You will supervise dissertations at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels and further support students by acting as a personal academic tutor.
