The UCL Department of Geography invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Geographies of Health. Up to two open-ended, full time appointments will be made, to start in September 2025.The Department of Geography ( ) is widely recognised as one of the leading geography departments in the world (4th worldwide in the QS Ranking 2025, 2th in the Shanghai world rankings 2024). It has been highly rated in all seven UK Research Assessment Exercises, and the 2021 REF confirmed that 96% of the Department’s research activity is considered World Leading (4*) or Internationally Excellent (3*).UCL Geography spans a broad range of Human and Physical Geography and we are committed to cross-disciplinary teaching and research. Research within the Department is currently organised into . We are adding a new research cluster in Geographies of Health in 2025-26, seeking to build on and its existing .Staff are actively engaged in cross-disciplinary initiatives in UCL, including the , the initiative, and the . Those appointed in this search will join the community at UCL, where public health was ranked 3rd in the world in Public Health (Shanghai Rankings, 2024). We are searching for a new colleague who shares our commitments to collegiality, inclusivity and openness.Candidates must hold a PhD (awarded by the start date) in Human Geography, or another relevant discipline with an en vironmental or spatial focus on health and be able to evidence their ability to undertake and publish internationally excellent research. They must also demonstrate an aptitude for teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels; we are especially interested in candidates who can contribute in the following areas:
Once the new cluster is assembled, we anticipate both a new 3rd year module in Geographies of Health as well as a new MSc programme, to which the successful post-holder(s) will contribute.The advert will close on Monday 5th May 2025 at 23:59 GMT.
