Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Public Policy/Administration to further strengthen the thriving research, education and knowledge exchange culture of the Department of Politics and International Relations (PAIR) at the University of Southampton. The department has a world-leading reputation for its research in democratic governance and global political society, across areas such as political trust, democratic innovations, electoral behavior, environmental justice, global health, migration, and development. It has a strong reputation in the application of cutting-edge research methods, ranging from political ethnography to experimental social science.   

PAIR is currently home to several major ESRC and ERC grants, and hosts holders of UKRI Future Leader, British Academy Postdoctoral and Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships, and the Jean Monnet Chair in European Security Governance. The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world Universities and one of the UK’s top 15 research–intensive universities. It hosts the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods.    

The role   

We are seeking to recruit a candidate with expertise in the fields of public administration and public policy. We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates who can complement our existing strengths in: leadership and public management; comparative public policy; democratic innovation and digital governance; migration, health and development policy.    

All applicants will have expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.   

You will contribute to the educational activities of PAIR through delivering innovative, research-led instruction, designing, and marking assignments and examination papers, and through supporting an engaged learning community. You will contribute to the design and delivery of our growing MPA programme. You will also undertake internationally recognised research and work with others to seek research funding.   

About you  

You will have a PhD (or be nearing completion) in politics, public administration, or a cognate discipline, have a growing national and international reputation, publish in internationally leading academic journals, and possess the ability to plan, manage, organise and assess your own teaching contributions.  

It is expected that the start date of the appointment will be prior to 1st October 2023, but this is open to negotiation upon offer.
