The School of Social and Political Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Social History. The post holder will conduct research in modern social history as well as deliver teaching in the Economic and Social History subject area at undergraduate and postgraduate level. This post fits within the School’s thematic priority of addressing historical legacies and inequalities, and we welcome applicants with expertise in any area of Black history from the eighteenth century onwards. This could include but need not be limited to a focus on Black British, (post-) colonial or Commonwealth history.
The post holder be based in the Economic and Social History subject area, where they will develop, lead and sustain research and scholarship of international standard and strengthen links and demonstrate impact with colleagues across and beyond the University and with non-academic bodies as appropriate to their specialism. They will contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing teaching and assessment processes to enhance learning and teaching. The post-holder will also undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives. Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and progress individual/joint research projects of international standard in the subject area with the support of a mentor, as required.
2. Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College, including establishing a track record of high-quality publications and contributing to funding applications as an individual or team member.
3. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses within the subject area in accordance with the subject’s priorities including accepting responsibilities as course co-ordinator for one or more courses.
4. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
5. Participate fully in examination and other assessment processes, as appropriate, using a variety of methods and techniques and to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
6. Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and to contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students, as appropriate, to ensure their effective development.
7. Take on administrative or management roles within the subject/School as assigned by the Head of School.
8. Engage in professional development as appropriate.
9. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan – World Changers Together.
For appointment at Grade 8 i****n addition the listed above:
10. Pursue and deliver independent research proposals and/or collaborative research projects, project managing research activities, supervising and taking responsibility for the research team. Securing external resources to support research individually and/or jointly, as appropriate to the subject area.
11. Develop a growing portfolio of research outputs and activities and support early career staff in developing their own portfolio.
A1: PhD or equivalent in xx or a related discipline.
A2: Membership of relevant Professional Society, if appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
C1: Research expertise and specialist knowledge of modern social history and experience delivering teaching of social history.
C2: Developing track record of research outputs compatible with enhancing the School’s research profile in accordance with School objectives.
C3: Good communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels within the Subject, School, College, University, and beyond, in the academic, policy and practitioner communities.
C4: Engagement with the current and future priorities of School and College strategies, aims and ambitions.
C5: Ability to lead and deliver high quality and innovative University teaching, including assessment and curriculum development.
For Appointment at Grade 8 in addition to the listed above:
C6: Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.
C7: Established track record of research outputs and of applying for, and securing, external research funding compatible with enhancing the School’s research profile in accordance with School objectives.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7/8, £37,474 – £42,155 / £46,047 – £53,353 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hrs per week) and open ended.
