Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology (SSPC) wish to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced candidate as Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy (Teaching and Scholarship) at 1 FTE on an open-ended contract starting in January 2024.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is able to effectively teach, motivate and mentor undergraduates and postgraduates. The main teaching duties will be on our various undergraduate and postgraduate Sociology and Social Policy programmes. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching on Sociology and Social Policy courses of all levels and potentially to a core undergraduate research methods module focused on qualitative research methods. They will also supervise dissertation students at all levels and support personal tutees.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate with our extensive existing team for their scholarship duties. We have a number of research centres within the Faculty and a wide network of organisations, academics and practitioners that we work alongside.
Description of Duties
- Coordinate taught modules, providing lectures, designing and delivering seminars, providing supervision, collaborating with colleagues, maintaining the virtual learning experience site (Canvas) and undertaking module administrative

- Design and deliver a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including the online MSc programme where required
- Contribute to the enhancement of the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE sector
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- PhD in relevant discipline or close to successful completion
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience or knowledge to design, deliver, assess and evaluate modules in the subject area
- Evidence of the ability to deliver excellent teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
