We are seeking enthusiastic veterinary surgeons with experience in small animal practice, equine practice and/or veterinary public health for two part-time (0.5 FTE) Lecturer posts. The successful applicant will join a team of fellow professionals within the School of Veterinary Medicine committed to providing excellence in teaching for the benefit of a new generation of vets.
About the role
- In the role, you will use your skills to support theoretical and practical animal health and husbandry teaching across years one and two of the programme, small group clinical skills teaching in years three and four, and veterinary public health teaching in year five of the programme.
- You will also be expected to support practical assessment across all years of the programme and contribute to academic administrative duties. To support the needs of the programme one of your working days will be a Tuesday.
The School of Veterinary Medicine follows a distributed model for final year teaching and we are actively partnered with leading veterinary practices and local research institutes whose clinicians and scientists participate in teaching throughout the undergraduate curriculum. Successful candidates may be required to support students on rotation through off-site visits to partner practices.
Our Lecturers play an important role in influencing the future of the veterinary profession. As such, you will have;
- A strong understanding of first opinion veterinary practice across small animal, equine and production animal species and/or demonstrated competence in the field of veterinary public health.
- A passion for veterinary sciences and a strong commitment to delivering excellent teaching are required.
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to work flexibly and creatively in different contexts are essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Previous experience in teaching and supervision of students studying veterinary sciences or related disciplines is desirable.

Induction Period Information
We wish to create the conditions for success for our new starters in the Vet School, by facilitating their growth and development within our institution. To achieve this, we have established the following guiding principle for all new staff members who are on a local/Guildford contract, effective for all new starters.
Four-Day On-Campus Commitment: All new staff, whether full-time or part-time, are expected to be physically present on campus for a minimum of four days each week during their initial four to six months of employment. The duration will vary depending on individual with minimum duration being 4 months and maximum duration being 6 months. This requirement is adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time staff members. For those on remote contract, a separate programme of on-campus commitment is being developed.
